School Lunch Heroes
On Friday May 1st, Treynor CSD will be celebrating our wonderful kitchen staff, alongside thousands of School Nutrition professionals in public schools nationwide. Yes, there is a National School Lunch Hero Day, which is based off of the comic book series "Lunch Lady" by Jarrett J. Krosoczka.
Did you know we only have 7 lunch ladies for the entire district? Seven ladies to feed both breakfast and lunch to our students, and to support them with kindness, to be a source of comfort for them, and love all 836 kids! On top of the students they help serve, they also support the teachers, staff, and the community with activities and events.
At the Elementary School (enrollment 362) we have 3 ladies: Deb Zimmerman, Ardith Wellman and Monica Grashorn.
At the Middle School (enrollment 196) we have 2 ladies: Patty Birney and Roxy Huskey.
At the High School (enrollment 278) we have 2 ladies: Kayleen Smith and Tina Garrison.
“School nutrition employees must balance many roles and follow numerous federal, state and local regulations to ensure safe and healthy meals are available in schools. School Lunch Hero Day provides the opportunity for the community to thank these hardworking heroes for their dedication to fueling our students for success,” said Mandy Vincent, School Nutrition Director.
