Celebrating Student Achievement

@WestPottawattamie4-H

Treynor High School Sophomore, Monica Osborn, recently had a couple of achievements and delegations that are traits of "Treynor excellence".

Monica recently had her writing selected for first place (poetry) and second place (short story) in the Iowa Reading Association's Creative Writing Contest. Monica and other winners will be honored at the Young Author's Celebration in Ames this summer during the annual Iowa Reading Conference on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 where she will share her work and get to speak with award-winning author Pam Munoz Ryan (Esperanza Rising). The highlight of this event will be listening to winning student authors read their written work.

Monica was also selected last month to be on the 2023-2024 State 4-H Council, as well as being selected as a delegate to the 2024 National 4-H Conference. Monica is a member of the Silver Keg Feeders 4-H Club.

In addition, Monica has been serving this year on the Iowa Youth Congress. IYC was created in 2006 by the Department of Human Rights (DHR) to enhance opportunity and broader representation of all Iowans in the government process. The IYC provides youth of all backgrounds the opportunity to gain hands-on education in the subject areas of state government, democracy, advocacy, and civic engagement. The members participate in a year-long program which provides students the knowledge, abilities, and direction to advocate and enact change in their communities and at the state level for issues affecting youth. IYC will hold regional meetings throughout the year and will engage students in a one-day Mock Congress event.  Read all the student's bios here, advancing to page 19 to read Monica's information.

Congratulations to Monica for her achievement of excellence.
