Nutrition Policies

Treynor Families,
We are emailing you to let you know about some new procedures related to your child’s lunch account and a few reminders of items that are currently in place related to accounts with negative balances. As is the case with most, if not all districts, we have a School Board Policy related to lunch accounts and negative account balances, policy 710.4. Currently our practice and policy includes the following:
- When accounts are at $5.00 and below an email is sent to the parent(s) on the account.
- Our policy states that when an account is at $0.00 or below the student is no longer allowed to charge a la carte item until the negative account balance is paid.
- When negative balances reach $100.00 families are mailed a letter.
- Negative balances more than $300.00 at the end of the school year may be subject to additional actions to be collected.
Unfortunately, despite these actions we are still having difficulties with negative balances being addressed in a timely manner. Here will be the sequence of actions:
- When accounts are at $5.00 and below an email is sent to the parent(s) on the account.
- Our policy states that when an account is negative the student is no longer allowed to charge a la carte or extra items until the negative account balance is paid.
- Your child will be given a verbal reminder at checkout indicating that they are not allowed such purchases.
- When negative balances reach $100.00 families are mailed a letter. In addition, you will receive a phone call reminder of your account balance and with the option to set up a payment plan or pay the balance in full.
- Negative balances more than $300.00 at the end of the school year may be subject to additional actions to be collected.
We understand that everyone’s circumstances are different and sometimes life happens. Therefore, our goal is to work with families that may be in a situation in which a negative balance is present.
