Spreading the JOI

JOI Officers took a road trip with Mrs. Bailey to deliver the 29 tie blankets to Children's Hospital recently. Blankets have to be bagged and cannot be personally distributed to the children. L-R: Andyn White, Monica Osborn, 2 Children's Hospital employees and Gretchen Swalwell.

The JOI (Junior Optimist International) Club of Treynor has been busy already this school year, living out their motto to serve others. In September, the students made tie blankets after their meeting, sending 29 blankets to Children's Hospital.  The staff at Children's Hospital told the group on Wednesday that the tie blankets "are super popular among the young patients and go fast". Later this month, you'll find the group manning a trunk or two and helping with the activities at the Community Trunk or Treat.

JOI Club also has a sub-organization, KKAD25, that promotes safety events. The Treynor KKAD25 group partners with SAFE Iowa that provides funding and events for schools.

The Treynor Junior Optimist Club meets on the first Wednesday of each month to conduct official business. The planned projects for the remainder of this year will include cookies and thank-you bags for veterans, Community Christmas event help, New Visions Toy Drive, "Souper Bowl" food drive, Valentine's for Open Door Mission and our senior citizens, Teacher & Nurse Appreciation, helping with the Fifth grade tree mulching, and more.

This year's club is led by President Monica Osborn, Vice President Gretchen Swalwell, Secretary Andi White and Treasurer Molly Coffman. The KKAD25 Group is led by President Andyn White and Adult JOI Club Sponsor Shelly Bailey serves as Secretary/Treasurer.
