Letter from the Superintendent

Parents,

I want to thank everyone for your support and cooperation this week with the various weather issues. I have no doubt that our decisions had an impact on your plans and we appreciate you working with us. True to the adage “in Iowa, if you don’t like the weather today, wait for tomorrow,” next week it will feel like spring.

As much time as we have spent thinking about weather lately, that’s not the reason for my communication. I wanted to take a moment and remind you of some upcoming deadlines and provide you with some updates.

With March fast approaching it is that time in which open enrollment applications are due and kindergarten and preschools registration information is needed:

  • Open enrollment deadline is March 1, 2025 for the 2025-2026 school year. If you are already enrolled in Treynor CSD you don’t need to submit another application, but if you are new to the district or have moved outside of our district you need to complete the application. If you or someone you know is interested in enrolling their child(ren) in our district, please visit our Registration Page at https://bit.ly/TCSDReg for more information and to download the Iowa Open Enrollment Application form. For an article with more information about enrollment and what makes Treynor a great choice for your child’s education, click here.
  • Kindergarten Roundup is scheduled for April 4, 2025. To make sure we know about your child planning to attend kindergarten next year and to be kept in the loop about important information, please register your child here. This includes those students currently in preschool that will be attending kindergarten for the 25-26 school year. If you are outside of the district, an open enrollment application will need to be completed also. Click here for an article with more information.
  • Four-year-old full day preschool registration is also happening now for resident and non-resident children. No open enrollment application is needed for non-resident students, but spots are limited and resident students are placed first. First round of determination letters will be sent by April 1, 2025. To register your child for preschool, click here. For more details about Preschool registration, visit this web article.

Speaking of preschool, I wanted to let you know that we have a Preschool Input Committee that is working on our future programming and supports it as it relates to early childhood. This group of about 30 community members and staff will be providing input as we determine what our vision and offerings will be for early childhood education at Treynor CSD. One of the first items that the group has already provided is input on criteria that we might use if we have space available in our preschool for children that are above the age of four, but the family feels they are not ready for kindergarten. This is only an option if there is space available and obviously we hope we fill all of our available spaces. On a somewhat related note, we have some data on the 15 preschool students from 23-24 that are now in kindergarten. All 15 of the students were proficient on the fall kindergarten FAST math and reading screeners, which speaks to the early success that our preschool program is having on student achievement and kindergarten readiness.

In addition to registering students for the 25-26 school year, current high school students are starting the registration process for classes for next school year. If you have a high schooler we would encourage you to have a conversation with them about their course selection for next year.

Preparation for the 25-26 school year starts with students, but it also includes making sure we are fully staffed. To see our current employment opportunities please visit our Careers page. Please know that some of these are current openings and some are for next school year. In addition, I would like to draw your attention to the seasonal/summer work opportunities. This can be a great employment opportunity for a graduating senior, college student returning for the summer, part-time employment, and more. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions and PLEASE let others know about these opportunities to join our fabulous staff.

Lastly, I want you to know that we have a draft of the 25-26 school calendar on the website.  This will be going to the School Board for approval at the March meeting, but in the event that you are already making plans for next school year you can see what is being proposed.

Thank you again for being flexible this past week with weather and changes to our normal school schedule. We appreciate the support and know that it has likely created some challenges with your schedules also.

Have a great weekend!
