Safety First

The Treynor Community School District has cooperated with the Pottawattamie County Sheriff Department and other first responders to utilize the Standard Response Protocol in all of our schools.  These protocols are based upon the work from the I Love U Guys Organization. Here is some information for students and parents with a summary of the different protocols.  All first responders in Southwest Iowa and neighboring areas are using the Standard Response Protocol.

In addition to our staff being trained on the Standard Response Protocol and other safety procedures, these are also reviewed with our students.  We also use some of our Homeroom//Study classes to discuss different emergency scenarios, and then we have a drill to practice our responses.

In the event there would ever be an emergency situation in our schools, communication with parents and guardians would begin as soon as possible.  We also realize in such an emergency situation, informal communication may occur by students through text messages or calls, but the most accurate information will be communicated by the school through our JMC Messaging System. This is one of the reasons it is vitally important that the contact information within our student information system, JMC, is up to date.  Please refer to this guide for how to update your contact information, email address(es), phone numbers and notification choices.

As a parent, you want to make sure you also know what to do in the event of an emergency at school. One of the first steps is to stay at home. Law enforcement personnel will be focused on keeping your student safe. Your next step is to make sure you keep informed by working off the information provided to you by our school district personnel. Lastly, be ready to receive information associated with the reunification procedures. These three steps are described in this video provided by the Douglas County Schools. While our procedures might not be exactly the same as those described in this video, the framework and steps of Stay Home, Stay Informed, and Be Ready are the same. Please do not call or text a student’s cell phone during a crisis.

Thank you for taking the time to review this information and for your support in making sure that Treynor Community School District is a safe place for students to learn.
