Policy for Free/Reduced Price Meals

2025-26 School year

Treynor Community School District announced its policy for providing free and reduced-price meals for the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), School Breakfast Program (SBP), for the 2025-2026 school year. Eligibility is based on federal and state guidelines concerning household size and income (click here to read public release document with income eligibility guidelines).

Eligibility criteria:

  • Households with incomes at or below federal levels are eligible and must submit a complete application.
  • Students receiving SNAP, FIP, or benefits from specific Medicaid programs are eligible.
  • Direct certification through a letter from Iowa HHS automatically qualifies listed children for free meals.
  • Students in Head Start/Even Start or identified as homeless, migrant, or runaway are eligible for free meals.

Application process:

Households meeting income guidelines must complete and return an application. SNAP or FIP households not directly certified must also apply using abbreviated information. The application requires only the last four digits of the primary wage earner's or another adult household member's Social Security number. Households directly certified by Iowa HHS do not need to apply; contact the school if any eligible children are not listed on the letter.

Appeal process:

Dissatisfied households can appeal application approvals to the school's designated hearing official, either orally or in writing.

Verification process:

School officials may verify application information, and misrepresentation could lead to prosecution.
